Professional LED Screen Configuration & Calculation Guide

Planning a custom LED video wall requires precise engineering calculation to ensure electrical safety, structural seamlessness, and optimal controller configurations. Our professional LED Wall Calculator is designed to assist engineers, event organizers, and retail planners in automatically sizing their screens, determining optimal cabinet resolutions, calculating power consumption with safety margins, and matching Novastar controller loading ports.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I calculate the power consumption of an LED screen?

LED screen power consumption is calculated based on the maximum and average power metrics of the LED cabinets. Average power is typically 30% to 40% of the maximum power. The formula is: Total Max Power (W) = Cabinet Max Power × Cabinet Quantity. To ensure safety, a 20% electrical buffer is automatically added to determine the necessary power supplies and circuit load.

2. How many Novastar controllers or sending cards do I need?

The number of Novastar controllers depends on the total pixel resolution of your LED wall. A standard gigabit Ethernet port on a Novastar receiving card/controller can load up to 650,000 pixels. The formula is: Number of Ports = Total Screen Pixels / 650,000. If your screen exceeds 650,000 pixels, you will need multiple ports or multiple controllers (e.g., Novastar TB series or VX series) to load the display.

3. What is the standard cabinet size for indoor and outdoor LED walls?

Standard cabinet sizes include 500x500mm, 500x1000mm for rental/stage applications, and narrow-pitch fine cabinets such as 320x480mm, 320x640mm, or 640x640mm for fixed indoor installations. Cabinet dimensions are designed to be multiples of standard LED modules (typically 320x160mm or 250x250mm) to achieve seamless splicing.

4. Which power supply should I choose: G-Energy or Mean Well?

Mean Well (e.g., LRS-350-5) is the global gold standard for power supplies, offering high energy efficiency, low failure rates, and long lifetimes, making it ideal for high-end projects. G-Energy (e.g., JPS300-5) is a highly reliable, cost-effective alternative widely adopted in commercial displays.
